Letter from the chairman

Many individuals and families have had to live alongside the scourge of Alzheimer's disease in a loved one. However, I do not wish to use this letter to talk about the negative side that you are surely aware of. Instead, allow me to highlight the positive aspects involved in this personal drama. While these may be nothing more than ways of fending off Alzheimer's disease, the union of the family, the emergence of sensitivity and emotion, the closeness and the value of friends have all manifested themselves much more in recent years. All these factors have been guiding factors behind the decision to launch this foundation in 2008.

All of this because I am not satisfied with the existence of good centres filled with home automation systems. I wish to be instrumental in the fight against Alzheimer's so that neither our children nor our grandchildren suffer from this devastating disease. So that nobody has to suffer from Alzheimer's disease. So we do not get there too late. To prevent rather than offer relief and prevent dependence.

The fight against Alzheimer's disease has become a vital goal and I want to also make this a goal for the whole of society. This effort will not be in vain. All of us belonging to this foundation want to put an end to the fear associated with Alzheimer's disease. This requires access to technological means and working side by side with researchers and teams of neurologists, neuroradiologists, neuropsychologists, nutritionists, bioinformaticians, nurses, and technicians. These are multidisciplinary teams involved in dealing with research of this disease from all its facets. Our first Research Project, the Gipuzkoa Alzheimer's Project , is our flagship in research, which came about thanks to the generosity and courage of 500 volunteers offering their time and sharing their concerns with us. Together we will succeed. Thanks to everyone involved. Bihotz bihotzetik.
