3. Who are the Alzheimer's disease prevention strategies aimed at? Cross sectional study of the risk factor profile for pre-clinical Alzheimer's disease (PREVALZ)

Principal Researcher Pablo Martínez-Lage

Status: Completed

Purpose: To research the profile of cardiovascular risk factors in people with pre-clinical Alzheimer's disease.

Interim results: A significant arterial hypertension effect (OR=2.4; CI95% [1.13-5.25]; p < 0.05) on the classification of a participant as LCR-A β + was observed in the logistic regression model adjusted according to age (greater or less than the sample median), APOE genotype (carrier or non-carrier of E4) and sex. The A1-42 levels were significantly different among participants with and without hypertension (789.3 ± 220.3 pg/mL vs. 849.7 ± 215.5 pg/ml; p<0.05 ).

In the logistic regression analysis adjusted according to age (greater or less than the sample median of 57.2 years of age), sex, and APOE status (non-carrier, carrier), a significant effect on the classification of a participant was observed as LCR--Aβ + of the REGICOR cardiovascular risk index (risk <5% vs ≥ 5%) (OR=2.2; CI95[1.00-4.97]; p<0,05). There was also a significant effect of the SCORE risk index (OR=1.63; CI95 [1.07-2.55]; p<0.05); and the same was observed with the Framingham risk index (OR=2.54; CI95 [1.31-5.07]; p<0.01).
